All About Drink Driving

Feemale.com explains the dangers

Drink Driving

Drink driving is an ever-increasing problem, and new initiative is being taken to ensure it is reduced especially over the world cup season. THINK! And The Uk Department for Transport are aiming their campaign predominantly at males aged 19-30, but that is not to say women are excluded. It is far too easy to enjoy a couple of glasses of wine and then get into the car, feeling "fine". Feemale brings you facts and statistics to help you learn the dangers, and increase awareness of drink driving. Also maybe you as women can help to discourage your husbands/boyfriends etc from drinking then driving as there is no way of telling your blood/breath alcohol level even after "just a couple".

  • Nearly 3000 people are killed or seriously injured each year on Britain's roads.

  • 15% of road deaths are caused by someone over the legal alcohol limit.

  • The UK limit is 80 milligram's of alcohol in 100 milliliters of blood, which is impossible to tell purely based on "how many drinks you have had".

  • Any amount of alcohol in your system results in slower reactions, decreased awareness, smaller field of vision, poor judgment of distance and speed and increased stopping distances.

  • 500,000 Breathalyzer tests are taken each year, and 100,000 of these are found to be over the limit.

  • 1 unit of alcohol takes the liver 1 hour to breakdown, so if you consume 4 units it will take 4 hours to completely leave your system.

  • After a night of drinking you must be very careful since not all of the alcohol may have left your system.

  • "Sobering up" methods such as cold showers, strong coffees or fresh air won't clear your body of alcohol any faster- it just takes time.

  • Driving, over the limit, can result in 6 months imprisonment, £5000 fine and a minimum driving ban of 12 months.

  • A drink driving offence remains on the offenders license for 11years.
